Job Description
Our client is looking for a Tax Supervisor to prepare complex returns, advise clients on strategy, and build toward a review-focused role. This is a client-facing position within an advisory model built on annual engagements, planning and consultation rather than one-time compliance.
Key responsibilities
• Prepare complex individual (1040) and business entity (1120S, 1065, 1120) returns, starting at roughly 90% preparation and 10% review and moving toward a 30% / 70% split as you gain experience
• Deliver tax returns, tax plans and payroll plans to clients, and sign returns on a per-client basis as directed by your Pod Leader
• Manage roughly 25 to 30 advisory engagements and 25 to 50 tax-only engagements in your first year, with scope growing over time
• Prepare tax plans and projections, moving toward a roughly 50/50 preparation and review split
• Discuss tax strategies with clients, including capitalization, participation and risk
• Calculate salary and tax projections, enter shareholder payroll and review the numbers with clients
• Resolve federal and state tax notices and other client issues
• Research complex tax questions, stress-test conclusions with AI tools and draft memos
• Lead tax onboarding for new clients and join prospect Discovery Meetings
Key requirements
• Active CPA, EA or CA license
• Bachelor’s degree at minimum, accounting preferred
• 3 to 5 years or more of complex tax return preparation in public accounting
• Comfort across 1040, 1120S, 1065 and 1120 returns
• Clear, confident client communication
• Strong business and rental property acumen, with tax strategy that goes well beyond basic recommendations
• Willingness to use AI for research, preparation, review and automation
• Commitment to staying current on federal and state developments unprompted
• Willingness to grow into review over time
Nice to have
• Tax return signature authority, at least constructively
• Business consulting or advisory experience
• Hands-on experience with Thomson Reuters UltraTax and SurePrep
• Multi-state experience, including nexus and apportionment
Salary Range: $110,000 to $130,000, dependent of experience and qualifications.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
